Refers to a reduced cross-section of the line to the vacuum pump. This prevents or minimizes splpashes during soldering. In the pressure range from 1013 to approx. 600…300 mbar absolute pressure, the cross-section of the line is reduced by a throttle valve, thus artificially reducing the suction power of the pump. At lower pressures, the valve opens the line completely in order to achieve the required final pressure.
